May 1, 2018 (New York) – International law firm Proskauer secured a trial victory on behalf of Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) in a breach of contract suit by Worldwide Subsidy Group, LLC (WSG).
WSG claimed a contract dating back to 2001 for WSG to act as FIFA’s representative in the collection of cable and satellite retransmission royalties. With no evidence of a signed contract or meeting of the minds, WSG sued FIFA for millions of dollars in claimed commissions on royalties FIFA never received for the period 2000-2012. After less than an hour, the eight-person jury returned a unanimous verdict in favor of FIFA, finding no contract between FIFA and WSG.
The case is Worldwide Subsidy Group, LLC v. Federation Internationale de Football Association, 14-cv-00013 (AB) and was tried in the United States District Court for the Central District of California before the Honorable André Birotte, Jr.
The Proskauer team included partner Margaret Dale and associates Jennifer Roche and Kelly Curtis.
