NEW YORK, January 31, 2022 – Proskauer, a leading international law firm, is pleased to announce it has again been named a “Best Place to Work for LGBTQ+ Equality” by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation (“the Foundation”), the educational arm of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), America's largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) people.
The Firm earned a perfect score of 100 points on the Foundation’s 2022 Corporate Equality Index (“CEI”), the nation’s premier benchmarking survey and report, which measures corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ+ workplace equality. The Firm was judged on – and received top marks – in all areas which included non-discrimination policies across business entities; equitable benefits for LGBTQ+ workers and their families; supporting an inclusive culture; and corporate social responsibility.
“Proskauer is honored to once again be named as a ‘Best Place to Work for LGBTQ+ Equality.’ It is important to us that everyone – regardless of who they are or who they love – has a workplace that is a safe and welcoming environment,” said Peter Wilson, Proskauer’s Diversity + Inclusion Officer. “From supporting national and local LGBTQ+ organizations to educating legal professionals across the country, we are committed to building upon the successful initiatives we have in place to further champion LGBTQ+ equality.”
Proskauer’s efforts to ensure a positive work place for its LGBTQ+ employees in 2021 included:
- Engaging The National LGBTQ+ Bar Association’s LGBTQ+ coaching and consulting program for a three-part inclusion training series.
- Providing significant support to national and local LGBTQ+ organizations, including the National LGBTQ+ Bar Association, the LGBT Law Association of Greater New York, and the Massachusetts LGBTQ+ Bar Association.
- Sponsoring the 2021 National LGBTQ+ Bar Association Lavender Law Conference & Career Fair, the largest LGBTQ+ legal conference in the country with approximately 1,700 attendees attending annually.
- Supporting OutLaw chapters across the country, which provides a supportive environment for LGBTQ+ law students and educates campuses around legal issues affecting members of the LGBTQ+ community.
The Firm has also dedicated a significant number of pro bono hours to LGBTQ+ causes over the past year, including: winning asylum for LGBTQ+ immigrants fleeing persecution and obtaining legal name changes for transgender people in need of identity documents that match their lived experiences.
Companies rated in the CEI include Fortune magazine’s 500 largest publicly-traded businesses, American Lawyer magazine’s top 200 revenue-grossing law firms (AmLaw 200), and hundreds of publicly- and privately-held mid- to large-sized businesses. The results of the 2022 CEI illustrate how U.S.-based companies are promoting LGBTQ+-friendly workplace policies in the U.S., and how companies with global operations are helping to advance the cause of LGBTQ+ inclusion in workplaces abroad.
