NEW YORK, August 21, 2023 – Proskauer, a leading international law firm, is delighted to announce that associate Nicholas (Nic) Urban has been named to Sports Business Journal’s (SBJ) 2023 Class of New Voices Under 30. Members of this year’s class are impactful leaders, entrepreneurs, risk-takers and disruptors who are re-imagining the sports experience and the way business is done. Individuals named to SBJ’s New Voices Under 30 were selected for their ability to stretch beyond the traditional roles within their organizations, break boundaries and take on additional responsibility.
A member in Proskauer’s Sports Law group, Nic advises sports leagues and teams on a range of transactional matters, including ownership transfers, league-wide credit facilities, league expansions and governance.
“Nic has an instinct for business, passion for sports and keen understanding of the industry. He is well-positioned for success and will be a trusted advisor to many key players as the sports and media business continues to evolve in the years ahead. I am excited to watch his career progress,” said Joe Leccese, Co-Chair of Proskauer’s Sports Law Group.
Nic has been at the forefront of several groundbreaking transactions in the sports industry. Among Nic’s recent matters are advising Major League Soccer on the league’s expansion to San Diego and representing the Patrick D. Bowlen Trust and related entities in the $4.65 billion sale of the Denver Broncos to the Walton-Penner family.
Nic is also active in recruiting and diversity efforts at Proskauer, supporting the next generation of leaders in the sports industry. This year, he led the “Sports, Business and Law” clinic, an annual program in partnership with Legal Outreach, an organization that prepares urban youth from underserved communities in New York City to compete at high academic levels, where eighth-grade students participate in a mock NBA Expansion Workshop.
