Genesis G. Sanchez Tavarez

As a commercial litigator and trial attorney, Genesis Sanchez Tavarez specializes in high-stake matters and complex disputes across industries. Her practice encompasses a broad range of high-profile complex litigation matters across the country, with a particular emphasis on antitrust, products liability and contract disputes. Genesis has experience representing clients at all stages of litigation, from pleading stage through discovery and trial. Her experience also spans a wide array of industries such as pharmaceuticals, professional sports and consumer products.

Genesis has been a key member of trial teams in multiple high-profile cases in federal courts throughout the country. Genesis was part of the trial team representing Gilead Sciences, Inc., Gilead Holdings, LLC and Gilead Sciences, LLC in a $3.6 billion antitrust case on allegations that the pharmaceutical company struck an anticompetitive "pay-for-delay" patent settlement related to two HIV medications. A California federal jury delivered a full defense verdict following a six-week trial. The trial team was named “Litigators of the Week” by The American Lawyer and honored for “Top Defense Verdict” by the Daily Journal.

Most recently, Genesis was part of the trial team representing Major League Soccer in a $500M antitrust case on allegations that Major League Soccer conspired with U.S. Soccer to deny the North American Soccer League its divisional sanctioning applications.  Following a three-week trial, a federal jury delivered a full defense verdict after approximately 90 minutes of deliberation, rejecting NASL’s proposed relevant market definition as a threshold issue. The trial team was named “Litigators of the Week” by The American Lawyer as well as “Legal Lions” by Law360.

Genesis earned her J.D. From Columbia Law School, where she was a part of the Immigrants’ Rights Clinic and the Refugee and Asylum Moot Court, vice president of the Latinx Law Student Association and a staffer on the Human Rights Law Review Journal’s Jailhouse Manual. Genesis was also a visiting scholar at King’s College London in their Master of Laws (LLM) program. Additionally, Genesis has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Justice Studies and Public Administration with a secondary concentration in Sociology.
