Cohen Private Ventures Secures Rights for a TGL Team Representing New York
NEW YORK, September 14, 2023 – Proskauer, a leading international law firm, today announced that it advised TGL in connection with its sale of the rights to operate a team that will represent New York and compete in the new tech-forward, primetime, team golf league developed by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s TMRW Sports in partnership with the PGA TOUR. The rights were acquired by Steven A. Cohen, and the team will be managed by his family office, Cohen Private Ventures.
Cohen is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Point72, a global multi-strategy asset management firm. He bought the iconic New York Mets baseball team in 2020 and serves as its Chairman and CEO.
Since playing an integral role in the launch of TMRW Sports and formation of TGL, Proskauer has been serving as primary counsel to TGL on sponsorship, media and operations-related matters. The Firm advised on the formation of the league’s three previously announced team-ownership groups:
- TGL Atlanta, led by Arthur M. Blank
- TGL Boston, led by Fenway Sports Group
- Los Angeles Golf Club, led by Alexis Ohanian, Serena Williams, and Venus Williams, as well as limited partners, the Antetokounmpo brothers
TGL’s team owners’ portfolios currently span the NFL, MLB, NHL, Premier League, NASCAR, MLS and NWSL. TGL team names, brands, front office staff, and players will be unveiled later this year, as will the inaugural schedule and other operational and fan-centric elements of TGL.
TGL matches will be staged in purpose-built arena on the campus of Palm Beach State College in Palm Beach, Florida. Currently, 12 players committed to playing in TGL have been announced, including Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Matt Fitzpatrick, Justin Rose, Adam Scott, Xander Schauffele, Max Homa, Rickie Fowler and Billy Horschel.
