WASHINGTON D.C., January 6, 2025 – Leading international law firm Proskauer is pleased to welcome regulatory specialist Nathan (“Nate”) Schuur as a partner in its Private Funds Group. Nate joins from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”) where he served as counsel to a Commissioner, providing legal and policy advice on rulemaking, enforcement, litigation and other matters, with a special focus on investment management issues. He also served in the rulemaking office of the Division of Investment Management.
Nate brings a decade of experience in providing legal counsel and guidance on a wide range of matters, including regulatory issues arising under the Advisers Act and Investment Company Act, the structuring and operations of investment companies and investment advisers, and other related issues.
“Nate’s background in government and corporate law and his deep interest in regulatory matters makes him an invaluable advisor to our funds clients,” said Tim Mungovan, Chair of Proskauer. “His expertise and experience will be instrumental in helping clients across asset classes address challenges and seize opportunities in an ever-changing regulatory environment. I am pleased to welcome him to the Firm.”
“The regulatory landscape for private funds has changed dramatically over the past few years and fund managers should expect additional changes as the new administration is poised to take over,” said Howard Beber, partner and co-head of Proskauer’s Private Funds Group. “Nate’s experience and perspective on the SEC’s rulemaking and enforcement actions will offer unparalleled guidance to our clients. I look forward to working with him.”
"The past few years have been one of the most exciting, albeit challenging, times for private funds given the regulatory changes that have been proposed, passed or not. As I return to corporate law, I am excited to help clients understand and navigate these changes as well as future ones, and to set their funds up for success. I look forward to starting 2025 with Proskauer and my new colleagues across Private Funds," said Nate.
Prior to the SEC, Nate worked in corporate law and was a member of the funds and regulatory teams at Kirkland & Ellis and Davis Polk & Wardwell. Nate earned his Bachelor of Arts from Evergreen State College and his Juris Doctor from University of Michigan Law School.
