CHICAGO, November 21, 2023 – Leading international law firm Proskauer is pleased to announce that partner Nigel Telman has been named a Notable Leader in Employment and Labor Law by Crain’s Chicago Business. The editorial feature recognizes top leaders in employment law in Chicago who have made a measurable impact in the types of cases handled, clients won and their leadership in professional organizations and community service initiatives.
Nigel is head of Proskauer’s Chicago office, leads the Firm’s Chicago Employment Practice and is co-head of its national Employment Litigation & Arbitration Practice. The nation’s leading organizations turn to him to handle their most sensitive and challenging matters. As a strategic advisor to boards and C-suite executives, Nigel’s practice focuses on litigating single and class action disputes that arise out of claims of workplace harassment and employment discrimination. He also advises clients on “bet the company” employment-related claims that often involve significant reputational risk.
Recently, he obtained a complete victory for a Chicago-based university, five trustees and the former university president in a case alleging whistleblower retaliation claims and denial of due process. The case was dismissed on summary judgement and affirmed on appeal. He also served as the lead attorney, alongside co-counsel Disability Rights Advocates, in a case alleging that the City of Chicago discriminated against blind and low vision pedestrians under federal disability rights laws by failing to install accessible pedestrian signals (“APS”) at signalized intersections. The court granted summary judgement and found that the city provided APS at only a “miniscule portion” of their 2,800 signalized intersections. The ruling will lead to historic accessibility improvements for more than 65,000 Chicago residents with vision difficulties.
Outside of his legal work, Nigel is involved in his local community. He is a past board member of the Art Institute of Chicago and Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning and currently serves as a trustee of Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art. He also is an appointee to Boston University’s School of Law Dean’s Advisory Board, a member of the ABA’s Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary, and a member of the Northern District of Illinois Magistrate Judge Selection Committee.
