Portia S. Proctor

Portia Proctor is an associate in the Litigation Department and a member of the White Collar Defense & Investigations Group. She has extensive experience with government investigations at the state and federal level and represents clients from a range of industries, including banking, technology and healthcare. Portia’s practice focuses on regulatory compliance, anti-money laundering and sanctions. She also has experience resolving commercial litigation disputes, which includes prevailing on behalf of clients in arbitration.

Portia served as a Special Assistant Corporation Counsel while on a secondment at the New York City Law Department, where she handled motions, depositions and settlement negotiations.

Portia maintains an active pro bono practice, advocating on behalf of asylum seekers, victims of domestic violence, and indigent clients in landlord-tenant disputes.  Portia supports the New York Courts’ Court Modernization Action Committee (CMAC) in implementing technology initiatives to better serve court users and enhance access to justice.

During law school, Portia was an extern at Innocence Canada, where she advocated for wrongfully convicted individuals, and at the Ontario Neurotrauma Foundation, where she assisted the Board of Directors with revising its by-laws.

Prior to law school, Portia authored a comprehensive report exploring trends in the Supreme Court of Canada’s rulings and the Justices’ voting patterns.  The publication was cited in the Court’s Annual Statistics Report. She also served as a Special Assistant to a Member of Parliament in the House of Commons of Canada.

Portia lived and studied in Shanghai, China, and she is proficient in Mandarin.
