Gustavo Calazans is an associate in the Latin America Practice Group and a member of the Private Funds Group. He regularly advises and represents alternative asset managers in the organization and operation of private funds, including private equity funds, co-investment funds, hedge funds, hybrid funds, single investor funds, funds of funds, separately managed accounts and other alternative asset investment vehicles. He also represents investors in the negotiation of portfolio company investments, co-investments, joint ventures and other strategic transactions, as well as venture capital and search fund deals. Gustavo is fluent in Portuguese and Spanish. He also has experience in international transactions, primarily involving Latin American fund sponsors. Gustavo is admitted to practice in New York and in Brazil.
Prior to joining Proskauer, Gustavo worked as a managing associate at Sidley Austin LLP in New York. While in Brazil, he worked at the law firms KLA-Koury Lopes Advogados and NBFA Advogados (in cooperation with Garrigues, Spain). He earned his LL.M. from The University of Chicago, his LL.B. from Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and has a post-graduate diploma in corporate law from Insper - Instituto de Ensino e Pesquisa, in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
