National Coming Out Day is observed annually in the U.S. on October 11 and honors the complex, and at times challenging, journey of individuals who come out as LGBTQ+.
In celebration of National Coming Out Day 2022, Proskauer’s LGBTQ+ Affinity Group hosted a panel for LGBTQ+ law students. Moderated by Corporate partner Robert Shmalo and featuring associates and co-chairs of the LGBTQ+ Affinity Group, Allison Saltstein and Hannah Silverman, as well as alums Andrew Santimays, associate counsel, digital legal affairs at Warner Music Group, and Bryant Wright, associate counsel at Paramount Global, each panelist shared their experiences and the ongoing vulnerability and strength that it takes to be “out” in the workplace.
For Andrew and Bryant, the day also provided an opportunity for each to return to where they started their legal careers.
“It feels like I was here yesterday,” reflected Andrew. “It’s really exciting to see some of my old colleagues. I may no longer be an employee of Proskauer, but I still consider myself a member of the Proskauer family. It feels so nice to be home.”
“It’s great to be back,” agreed Bryant. “In a sense, it actually feels like a professional family. I appreciate that I can come back in. This is my first time back since leaving and it feels like home.”
We thank Andrew and Bryant for their contributions to the 2022 National Coming Out Day panel, and for taking the time to support Proskauer’s LGBTQ+ community.
