Sean Spence is a partner in the Private Funds Group. He advises fund sponsors and financial institutions in connection with the formation and ongoing operation of their private investment funds.
As a US-qualified lawyer based in London, Sean maintains a transatlantic practice advising clients across multiple fund jurisdictions on a daily basis. His practice covers several fund strategies (including buyout, energy and infrastructure, real estate, funds of funds and emerging markets funds) and a wide range of clients (including newly-formed and large asset managers, major financial institutions and sports leagues).
Sean also advises multiple sovereign wealth funds and other institutional investors in connection with their global alternative investment strategies, including negotiating investments in primary and secondary transactions, co-investments, funds of one and separately managed accounts.
In addition to fundraising, Sean guides his clients with respect to their internal governance, regulatory compliance, and the implementation of carried interest arrangements.
He has held several Firm leadership positions, including on the Firm’s Hiring and Summer Program Committees, and currently serves as the Co-Chair of the Black Lawyer Affinity Group.
Sean was previously based in the Firm’s New York office and, prior to joining Proskauer, was an associate in the investment funds group at White & Case.
